Market Research

Intro to QDoc (qdoc.ca):QDoc is a Manitoban virtual healthcare service that is covered by provincial healthcare. Through technology, our service can connect patients to doctors through devices with a camera and microphone. Our doctors can prescribe medication, write sick notes, refer patients to see a specialist and help get lab work and diagnostic imaging. In simpler terms, they can help in any way that isn’t considered a medical emergency.QDoc’s mission is to ensure equal access to quality medical care for all Canadians, regardless of their geographic location or socioeconomic status. We are still in the early phases of this company but can currently help any patients who are physically located in Manitoba, Nunavut, or NW Ontario.Since QDoc started, our primary target market has always been all of Manitoba, but our main audience attraction is currently in Winnipeg. We are now looking to primarily target the Northern Manitoba regions, and are looking for some information and research on the best way to approach these regions with marketing our service. We would like to revamp our marketing techniques to reach a new customer demographic, Northern Manitoba. We want to better understand our new target market and the overall market, so we can uniquely position ourselves within our industry, and build strong relationships with the region. We would like to collaborate with students to conduct market research. This will involve several different steps for the students, including:Familiarizing themselves with our company’s values and services.Researching our current target market and our new target marketResearching the industry and competitive landscape.Recommending strategies to improve our positioning, brand, services, and overall marketing techniques.Bonus steps in the process would also include:Recommending strategies to differentiate ourselves from our competition, and build trust and reputation with the targeted communities.

QDoc OCR: optical character recognition

Problem to SolveSecure and accurate data entry into the QDoc is essential to the success of this health care service delivery model. Manual data entry is inefficient and prone to error. The OCR capability to scan the Manitoba Health card and automatically transfer the data directly to the patient file will address these challenges. This is the first step towards fully automated data capture throughout the entire QDoc workflow. Future iterations will include data capture from prescription records and medication labels, for example. The students will:1. Gather samples of all Canadian Health Cards, and checksums2. Work with training the machine learning in AWS Rekognition.3. Ability to program in Python creating Lambda functions that can interface with Rekongnition.4. Develop a full end-to-end test plan for OCR of Health Cards.Using industry standards, we plan on implementing OCR to read all Canadian Provincial health cards. Using Amazon Rekognition we will convert text into machine-readable text. It is our plan to leverage machine learning in this project.
