Overview
Learner goals and capabilities

Looking to elevate your organization, and bring it to the next level? Bring on students from Red River College to be your student-consultants, in a project-based experience. Students will work on one main project over the course of the semester, connecting with you as needed with virtual communication tools.

Students in this program explore the fundamental principles of project management. We are looking for students to get hands-on experience of project management with direct engagement with those involved in a project.

Expected outcomes and deliverables

Deliverables are negotiable, and will seek to align the needs of the students and the organization.

Some final project deliverables might include:

  1. A 10-15 minute presentation on key findings and recommendations
  2. A detailed report including their research, analysis, insights and recommendations
  3. Social media content creation
  4. Event planning and coordination (online or in-person)
Project Examples

Students in groups of 3-4 will work with your company to identify your needs and provide actionable recommendations, based on their in-depth research and analysis.

Project activities would support social innovation and community development projects through the following:

  • Defining processes, terms, and tools used in project management.
  • Using SWOT and PESTLE analyses to inform project planning processes.
  • Determining the scope, deliverables, scheduling, and resources required to accomplish the project.
  • Demonstrating collaboration skills with project team and interested parties to plan, execute and close the project successfully.
  • Demonstrating professional engagement through: a) attendance and punctuality; b) responsible, ethical behaviour and communication; and c) collaboration and flexibility.
Additional company criteria

Companies must answer the following questions to submit a match request to this experience:

A representative of the company will be available to answer questions from students in a timely manner for the duration of the project.

A representative of the company will be available for a pre-selection discussion with the administrator of the course to review the project scope.

Student's are required to complete a minimum of a 6-week project, however, projects can go for up to 6 months. Please advise if this is something your company is able to offer.

While student's are available for non-paying opportunities, if there is the possibility of some remuneration that would be greatly received.
