- explain the goal of criminal investigations
- demonstrate the use of the scientific method to identify, collect and analyze evidence to reconstruct probable past events, with a focus on the multidimensionality of the investigative process, which includes temporal, spatial, and mental components for all persons involved
- document all investigative steps, from the initial notification through to the completion of an investigation
- explain the methods associated with crime scene safety and security, determining the size and scope of a crime scene, and methods of searching a crime scene for evidence
- explain the various types of evidence, conceptualized in categories of physical, testimonial, electronic, and scientific, and the best method to prioritize evidence collection
- provide an explanation of the appropriate forensic analyses for various types of evidence
Learners
Deliverables are negotiable, and will seek to align the needs of the learners and the organization.
Some final project deliverables might include:
- A 10-15 minute presentation on key findings and recommendations
- A detailed report including their research, analysis, insights and recommendations
The format of deliverables include documentation of a basic criminal investigation.
